Odegaard on ‘special’ Madrid debut

Martin Odegaard has spoken of his delight at making his Real Madrid debut on Saturday but admits “I was nervous to play in front of so many fans.”

The Norwegian starlet – aged just 16 years and 156 days – became the youngest player to ever feature in a La Liga match when he replaced Cristiano Ronaldo after an hour against Getafe and caught the eye with his willingness to support Los Blancos’ attack.

“It was very special for me to play at the [Santiago] Bernabeu [on Saturday],” he told Real Madrid TV.

“I’m proud and happy. I’ve had a fine first year and really enjoyed it. I felt very comfortable [on the pitch].

“I was nervous to play in front of so many fans, but I tried to enjoy it.”

Madrid’s head of PR Emilio Butragueno also chimed in on Odegaard’s cameo, adding: “Apart from his moves, he showed confidence and personality.

“At 16, [he became] the youngest player in La Liga history at a very imposing stadium.”
