Bartomeu: Talk about Enrique later

Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu has said discussion about Luis Enrique’s future can wait until after the Champions League final.

The Catalans were awarded the Primera title after a 2-2 draw with Deportivo La Coruna and face Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey final and Juventus in the Champions League over the next few weeks.

Bartomeu said following the draw with Deportivo that those games should be played before talking about whether or not Enrique will stay on the bench.

“There are still to trophies to play for. We’ll talk later about Enrique continuing,” AS quotes Bartomeu as saying.

Bartomeu then moved on to other topics – the departing Xavi Hernandez, Dani Alves, who may also leave, and Deportivo.

“It’s difficult to define Xavi in a moment but I’ll go for his goal in Santiago Bernabeu in 2004, from Ronaldinho’s pass.

“It meant a change in mentality at Barca. We began to win trophies. He’s the best midfielder in the history of football.

“Today we say farewell to the legend that is Xavi. It’s Xavi’s day, not Dani Alves’. I don’t know what to tell you.

“I know what it’s like to manage a team with the economic difficulties of Deportivo. I’m happy for them [staying up].

“It’s a pity for those going down but Depor are a great name of La Liga and they’ve had a difficult year.”
