Alcaraz planning for next season

Lucas Alcaraz says he is ready to start planning for next season after being confirmed as Levante’s Coach on a long-term basis.

The former Almeria and Granada boss replaced Jose Luis Mendilibar last October, with the Valencians second from bottom in La Liga after eight games, and ultimately led them to safety ahead of Saturday’s curtain call against Elche.

“The future of each player hasn’t been decided yet. Now’s the time to enjoy the serenity [of survival],” he said at a Press conference.

“When you have so many restless months, I think being quiet for a few days suits us all to reflect and ponder all the decisions we’ve made [during the season].

“[Player recruitment] lies with the sports management, but I’m not after a huge squad. The more adequate and utilisable a squad is, the better.

“My future depended on sporting results, and we ended up achieving survival.

“I think we’ve experienced many ups and downs this season. I liked the attitude of the players and fans.

“We earned even more credit by staying up with two games to spare. We’ve achieved something that wasn’t imaginable [earlier in the season].

“We’ve earned the serenity of the past week and the exciting prospect of reaching the final day in good health.

“All clubs are thinking about building new squads and everyone will have more money [in the summer].

“However, the most important thing is that we make the right decisions, so the team can stay up again.”
