Ancelotti confident of Madrid stay

Carlo Ancelotti has stated at length that he expects to stay on as Real Madrid’s Coach next season ahead of Saturday’s La Liga curtain call against Getafe.

The Italian’s future at the Santiago Bernabeu continues to dominate the front pages, with contrasting reports on whether he will stick or twist having done the rounds, but he insists he has not been any given indications other than leading the club beyond the summer.

“I still haven’t spoken to the club. We plan to meet at the end of the season,” he began at a Press conference.

“I still think I’ll be the Coach of Real Madrid until the club tell me something different, and that hasn’t happened.

“I appreciate what the players think [referring to the likes of Marcelo and Sergio Ramos backing him in public], but it’s a decision that the club must make.

“I have a backroom staff of the highest level and still think they’re the best

“I have great confidence in them because everything I’ve achieved in my career has been with them. They’re the best coaches in the world.

“[Regarding the speculation], the world is like this. It’s the same each year, but I’m surprised that anyone’s still surprised by it.

“I’ve always had a good relationship with the President and still do. [The club] must make an important decision if they decide to change the Coach, but I haven’t got that impression in two years.

“If I continue, I’ll be happy because it was my wish [to do so], and if I don’t then I’ll be happy for these two years.

“I’ll have left with the memory of two great years and possibly the happiest in Real Madrid’s history [referring to La Decima].

“My instinct tells me that I’ll remain the Coach of Real Madrid. I have the dream, desire and confidence to stay here. I like the club and players I have here.

“As a fan and with the experience that I have, I’m aware of the other coaches’ names [linked with my job].

“Each [Coach] has their own character and personality. People can think what they want, but it doesn’t bother me.

“[My staff and I] analysed the season and felt we could have changed something in February, but only small details. Still, I think I possess the right philosophy in my work.

“I must thank the players for what they’ve said about me, but they don’t need to be involved.

“I can spend the summer in Madrid, I’m in no hurry to go on holiday. I’ve always tried to impose my ideas on the team with my character and personality.

“We earned titles and records in the first half of the season but could’ve done better in the second, and this made for a difficult campaign. We fought until the end but didn’t win any [major] trophies.”
