Manchester United have reportedly agreed personal terms with Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi.
The Reds tried to sign the Argentina international in the last transfer window but received no encouragement from Los Che, who snapped up the 27-year-old from Porto for €12m on a five-year deal in February 2014, after which he was loaned to Brazilian outfit Atletico Mineiro for the remainder of the season.
However, Argentine newspaper Ole claims an agreement has now been reached with the Premier League giants, whose boss Louis van Gaal has been looking to strengthen his defensive options ahead of an assault on next season’s Champions League.
Otamendi was on the shortlist for the Argentina squad before last year’s World Cup in Brazil but narrowly missed out on selection, although since then he has been regularly included in Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino’s squad.
The Buenos Aires-born player has appeared in 34 La Liga games for Nuno Espirito Santo’s Valencia side this season, scoring five goals, and has been one of the mainstays in a side that has conceded just 30 goals.
