Eibar chief questions Cordoba

Eibar President Alex Aranzabal has rung the alarm bells ahead of the final day of the season by questioning the integrity of opponents Cordoba.

The Basques face Cordoba at Ipurua this Saturday knowing victory could go a long way to ensuring their top-flight safety this season, while their opponents have already been mathematically relegated.

However, Aranzabal [pictured, left] told Cadena SER that he believes the Andalusians may have been offered some financial inducement to emerge from the game victorious.

“In the last few games of the season, on occasions, certain matches have ended up with strange outcomes”, he said, as reported by AS.

“We have no proof Cordoba will come to Ipurua with the prospect of being paid a bonus for beating us, but strong rumours have reached us indicating this situation.

“It’s really frustrating as we are a small club and not used to this type of matter. We certainly feel it’s not good for the integrity of the competition.

“One feels impotent being aware this happening, but we have no concrete proof and the only thing we can do is keep quiet, but it’s definitely something that bothers you,” he concluded.
