Iniesta: ‘Chelsea goal my best”

Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta says his goal against Chelsea in the 2009 Champions League semi-final was the best of his career.

The 31-year-old fired home a brilliant effort on 92 minutes at Stamford Bridge to put Barca into the final of the competition, setting up a 2-0 win over Manchester United in Rome to give the Catalans a treble of League, Cup and Champions League.

Speaking at a Q&A sponsored by Estrella Damm, Iniesta told of his best moments in football.

“I’ve had many important moments but the first step was my debut for the first team,” revealed the Spain international.

“The day I made it against Brugge was the most important, although my first game at the Camp Nou against [Recreativo] Huelva was also important.

“But what stays with me is my debut and the titles won. However, the goal at Stamford Bridge, which was the best of my career, was another happy moment.”

Iniesta was asked what he does with his free time and about his plans when he decides to retire from football.

“At the moment I most like to spend time with my daughter, see what she does, how she grows…she is full of surprises every day. I also like any sport or television series. The last I saw was Breaking Bad, I like it a lot.

“As for films, anything with Denzel Washington in it. He’s my favourite actor.

“When I finish playing my idea is to live in Barcelona. I don’t think there is any other place like it.

“I came here aged 12 and have grown up here. I hope I can stay for a long time, linked with sport and Barca, which is my life.

“Barcelona and Catalonia have given me so much.”

Finally, Iniesta was asked what the secret is to Barca’s success.

“The secrets are the same as in any group, which are respect, solidarity, hard work and effort.

“There are no secrets for things to work, but sport in particular has a special way of working: luck, refereeing decisions…”
