Casillas to continue at Madrid

Real Madrid have informed goalkeeper Iker Casillas that he will continue at the club next season.

The Madrid captain still has two years remaining on his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu and held a meeting with President Florentino Perez on Tuesday, where it was confirmed he will carry on for next season at least.

Los Blancos are widely expected to tie up a deal for Manchester United stopper David de Gea this summer, although the decision to pursue the former Atletico Madrid man is understood to have had no impact on Casillas’ future.

The 34-year-old has always professed his desire to see out his contract with the Spanish giants where, according to AS, he would earn €7.5m next season and €7m during the 2016-17 campaign.

Saturday’s home game with Getafe was seen as a possible farewell to supporters, although it now appears Casillas may still have a part to play with the team, albeit possibly a less significant one.
