Navas: ‘I haven’t enjoyed Madrid’

Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas has admitted he has found it less than enjoyable at the Santiago Bernabeu this season.

The Costa Rica international was signed from Levante last summer for a reported €10m but has made just 11 official appearances this term – six in La Liga, three in the Copa del Rey and two in the Champions League.

It is a situation Navas concedes he did not expect, but insists he has no intention of quitting the club this summer even if, as seems likely, a new shot-stopper such as David de Gea is signed.

“That I’ve not complained doesn’t mean that I’ve enjoyed myself because I haven’t,” the 28-year-old told AS.

“However, I’ve never lost my enthusiasm for working and have given everything so that when I get the chance to play I’m able to give my all.

“Next year I want to continue here with the same sense of calmness, desire, and strength, and the dream of being first choice at Real Madrid is in my mind.

“I don’t pay attention to the rumours that another goalkeeper will come in. At the moment there are ‘keepers at Madrid who deserve respect and my mentality won’t change whoever I’m competing against.

“I hope next year I’ll have the opportunity to play more games,” he affirmed.

Navas was selected for Los Blancos’ game at Espanyol on Sunday but was badly at fault for the hosts’ goal in the 4-1 win after trying to take the ball around Christian Stuani, who stole it and then scored to level the match.
