Victor: Win felt like a defeat

Victor Sanchez has conceded that Deportivo La Coruna’s 2-0 win against Levante in La Liga on Sunday felt like a defeat.

The Galicians head into the final round of the season two points clear of the relegation zone thanks to goals from Alberto Lopo and Juanfran Moreno at Riazor, but the Coach admitted other results took the gloss off their performance.

“There’s one match left and we have to keep fighting,” he said after the game.

“We’re happy with the win, it was fundamental. We had to wait to discuss the other results, and now we know [our situation].

“We must find the [right] result at Camp Nou so we can confirm our objective [of staying up].

“The round hadn’t even been played yet, yet it felt like we lost [judging by the other results].

“It seems that we have one less day than the rest, but we’ll still go for the win [against Barca]. If not, we’ll go for the draw and then see what the others do.

“We have the same excitement and optimism as we did on the first day of the season.

“We still have [survival] in our hands with a game left. We’ll make sure that we prepare for it with the maximum workrate and dedication and the full involvement of the players.

“We now know we can’t celebrate anything just yet. We won’t stay up by chance, so we have it all to play for on the final day. The other results are what they are.

“We’re currently on a competitive streak and going game by game.

“[Although it was] less so against Elche, we’ve proved that [we won’t go down without a] fight. Just like our fans, we never surrender.”
