Arsenal to cash in on Barca CL win?

Arsenal could be set for a €4m windfall if Barcelona beat Juventus in the Champions League final as part of the Thomas Vermaelen deal.

The Belgian defender joined La Blaugrana for a reported €19m last summer, but the Daily Telegraph claims the club are in line to fork out more money as the Gunners invoked a series of clauses in the transfer.

One of those was a €4m payment if Barca won the Champions League, and the 29-year-old would be entitled to a winners’ medal, despite not featuring in the club’s tilt for European glory.

Vermaelen knowingly arrived at Camp Nou with a hamstring injury, picked up during Belgium’s World Cup campaign, but a recurrence of the setback has forced him to miss most of this season.

However, he was named among the substitutes for the Catalans’ 3-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the first leg of their semi-final tie, although he did not feature in the match.
