Emery: Dnipro have our respect

Unai Emery says Dnipro have Sevilla’s respect ahead of the Europa League final on May 27 following Thursday’s 2-0 win at Fiorentina in the last four.

The holders are on the verge of securing their fourth title in Europe’s second-tier competition, which would also result in qualification for next season’s Champions League, after defeating La Viola 5-0 in the semi-finals, but the Coach insists such talk is premature.

“Fiorentina have been a great team. We suffered at first but then we played to our strengths,” he said after the game.

“We ensured we didn’t give anything away to our opponents and scored two goals, which gave us strength.

“This [final] is for all our fans because we want to win this competition more than anyone.

“Our work gives me tremendous satisfaction. We’ve given our all to this competition throughout the entire season.

“Now we must savour this moment and start thinking about the final. We want to win it for our fans.

“We competed throughout, reaching the knockout stages unbeaten and competing well. We were very good against great teams like Borussia [Monchengladbach], Villarreal and Zenit [St Petersburg], even though Zenit were very difficult at their place.

“Dnipro [have also reached the final] and no-one gave him a chance. Eliminating Napoli is a major feat, so we both have a 50-50 chance. We’re not going [to Warsaw] as favourites.

“[On his future with Sevilla], I have a contract with Sevilla, what could be clearer? I have a view to next season [with Sevilla] and I’m very happy here.”
