Allegri hails ‘brave’ Juve

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri revealed he told Juventus to “be brave” against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Bianconeri reached their first Champions League final in 12 years with a 1-1 draw against Carlo Ancelotti’s men , going through 3-2 on aggregate, and Allegri could not hide his delight at the performance.

“I knew the game would go like this and I told the boys they needed to be brave and play well technically,” he told reporters.

“It was a difficult match because Real Madrid have so much quality and if you don’t concentrate the whole game then they can score, but we defended well and grew the whole game.

“We had several chances but the final pass let us down, although we deserve to be in the final because we had belief until the end.

“At half-time I said we should remain calm and our chances would come. Our play was good in midfield, even if we could have passed better, but we managed to get through and it’s a fantastic result.

“We were able to control the game. Madrid are a great team as they showed in a really intense opening 10 minutes, but my players were very good.”

Allegri also praised goalscorer and former Los Blancos star Alvaro Morata, whilst also looking forward to the final against Barcelona.

“I think Alvaro is becoming a major player. He’s grown both tactically and physically, although he’s still a young lad and I don’t think he’s fulfilled his potential yet. He has a lot of room for improvement.

“Against Barca it will be a unique match. It’s a one-off whereas two games is more complicated, but I’m used to playing them as I’ve faced them eight times in four years.

“Beating them is always a tough ask but this Juve team is an extraordinary group and I’m really proud of them, although right now I’m not thinking of the treble,” he conceded.
