Marcelo: ‘Madrid had no luck’

Defender Marcelo claims fortune did not favour Real Madrid following their Champions League semi-final elimination by Juventus.

Los Blancos drew 1-1 with the Italian champions at the Santiago Bernabeu and went out 3-2 on aggregate, but left-back Marcelo says his side did not have any luck on the night.

“We tried to score and did everything we could so I’m proud of the way the team fought,” the Brazilian told reporters.

“However, we didn’t have any luck and failed to score, but football is like that and I don’t think we played badly.

“We controlled the game but unfortunately the ball wouldn’t go in, although I didn’t get the feeling we were superior to them as we didn’t get through to the final.”

The 26-year-old went on to thank the Madrid fans for getting behind the team.

“The supporters were great, as they have been in other games. They always pushed us forward and I have to thank them,” said Marcelo, who was also asked about boss Carlo Ancelotti’s future at the club.

“Our Coach is a winner and if it was up to me he’d carry on,” he replied.
