Morata: Madrid exit bittersweet

Juventus striker Alvaro Morata confessed his goal to knock Real Madrid out of the Champions League semi-finals left him feeling “bittersweet”.

The 22-year-old sent the Bianconeri into next month’s final in Berlin at the expense of his former employers after he scored his side’s all-important equaliser at the Santiago Bernabeu, and he admits he would have preferred to score against another team.

“[Reaching the final] gives us great satisfaction, but we can’t stay here. We have to make history,” he told Canal Plus.

“I scored an important goal, but it leaves me with a bittersweet feeling. I want to thank the Madrid fans because they’ve always been good to me.

“I’d have preferred to score against another team, but that’s life.

“Here [at the Santiago Bernabeu] and in Turin left me thinking it was a training match, and I had to stop a moment and regain my focus.

“[Sergio] Ramos and [Iker] Casillas congratulated me and wished me all the best. They’re my friends.

“My feelings will be different against Barcelona. They’re are a great team, but so are we.”
