La Liga strike decision on Thursday

The High Court has announced that it will decide on Thursday whether the planned strike in Spanish football will go ahead.

The Spanish Footballers Association (AFE) have called the stoppage from May 16 onwards, which encompasses the last two rounds of La Liga fixtures plus the Copa del Rey final between Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao.

The dispute has arisen over a disagreement in the way in which money from the new television rights deal is to be distributed, while the call to strike would result in no professional football taking place in Spain from Saturday onwards if it goes ahead.

AS reports that at a meeting on Wednesday it was declared that a decision would be taken the following day on whether a potential premature end to the League season might come into effect.
