Pique: ‘Barca-Madrid? Why not?’

Gerard Pique says he would look forward to playing a Champions League final against Barcelona’s greatest rivals Real Madrid.

Los Blancos are hoping to turn around a 2-1 deficit against Juventus at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night, and in turn set up the mouth-watering prospect of a June 6 final against Barca, something Pique says he would relish.

“It would be historic and very exciting to play a Champions League final against your biggest rivals,” the central defender told Barcelona’s official website.

“We’ve done everything well so far, but we still need to make sure of winning trophies because we know everything can change in a moment.

“We need to see if we’re going to be playing against Atletico Madrid this weekend because of the strike. It all looks good but we still have to finish things off.”

The 28-year-old does not feel, however, that now is the time to point out that critics of the team at the start of the season have been forced to close their mouths following recent results.

“We all know how football can be. It’s all about results and when they go for you the people are with you. When they don’t, then people are not.

“Right now everyone, the team, the fans, the coaching staff and the directors are all on the same wavelength,” he insisted.
