Casillas intent on staying put

Iker Casillas has reportedly made it clear to Real Madrid that he wishes to stay put until his contract expires in 2017.

The goalkeeper regained his first-choice status at the start of the season, but his relationship with the Santiago Bernabeu faithful has been strained for some time, as seen by his gesticulations to the crowd after Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Valencia.

However, Marca claims the incident has still not deterred him from wanting to stay in Madrid. The Spaniard signed a nine-year contract with Los Blancos in 2008 and has repeatedly expressed a desire to see out his deal.

Casillas also believes, according to the newspaper, that the protests do not represent the entirety of Madrid’s fan base, but rather a small minority of supporters, who remain bitter about his feud with former Coach Jose Mourinho.

President Florentino Perez, meanwhile, is understood to be preparing a summer bid for Manchester United’s David de Gea, but he may change his mind if his club reach another Champions League final this season, not that it has affected Casillas.

Nevertheless, the 33-year-old is certain to keep his place for Wednesday’s semi-final second leg against Juventus.
