Bartomeu: Season has to continue

Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu doesn’t want La Liga to end early, as would happen if the planned strike goes ahead.

Bartomeu was speaking after seeing his side dispatch Real Sociedad, and weighed in on the prospect of industrial action as well as the action on the field, both against La Real and Bayern Munich, the Champions League semi-final second leg coming next week.

“It’s necessary we finish the championship,” Bartomeu said, AS reports.

“The Royal Decree [TV rights deal] is good for football. It brings competitiveness. I hope the League continues.

“The [Barca presidential] election will begin whether there is a strike or not.

“We weren’t too comfortable [against La Real] but we played a great game. It’s another step, three points more, and we wait for the next game.

“I noticed they were playing good football. They made it difficult for us.

“Pedro’s goal was very nice and made us calm. He’s a spectacular player. They’re always a competitive team. They’re fighters.

“Bayern? They scored six goals against Porto. We have to keep playing a good game and get to the final. It’s not going to be easy.”
