Nuno: Valencia must stop Ronaldo

Nuno Santo has instructed his Valencia players to do all they can in nullifying Cristiano Ronaldo when they face Real Madrid on Saturday.

Los Che regained their grip on fourth place in La Liga courtesy of their 3-1 win against Rayo Vallecano last weekend, and the Coach outlined the facets he demanded from his side’s performance at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“A high percentage [of our play will be to nullify Cristiano Ronaldo],” he said at a Press conference.

“It’s not just Cristiano [we’re looking out for], but we need to be able to nullify and control him if we want to be successful in this game.

“We’ll approach the game with the idea that referees do the best they can and whistle for what they see and not what they hear.

“[Clos Gomez] is an international referee, so that reassures us. Hopefully he’s just one part of the match and not a protagonist.

“I expect a hotly-contested match, with two lots of great players on either side, both of whom enjoy the game.

“There’ll be times when they have possession and we’re obliged to defend moments of great tension, so we must be precise, conclusive, manage our emotions and compete.

“I understand those who want to defend and vindicate themselves [referring to the strike].

“I’m neither for nor against, but what I want is for everything to be resolved at this point in the competition.

“I hope there’s dialogue and that [both sides] come together because the best League in the world deserves to end in a dignified manner.”
