Xavi to decide Barca future soon

Xavi Hernandez says he will resolve his future with Barcelona in two or three weeks’ time.

Reports in Spain last March claimed the Barca midfielder already had an agreement in place with Qatari club Al Sadd after he visited the country in March.

Although the veteran’s contract at the Camp Nou does not expire until the end of next season, the club are expected to release him early as a token of gratitude for his contribution to the Catalans’ success during his career.

“Let’s wait and see. I’ve yet to decide…I’m 35 years old. I’ll make a definite decision in two or three weeks as I want to enjoy these next few weeks. There’s plenty of time,” he told reporters at a publicity event for Soloporteros.com.

It is understood that Xavi has been offered a reported €10m per season at Al Sadd, where he would also undertake a leading role with the club’s academy to develop the Qatari stars of the future.

However, he has also been linked with a move to the United States, with former teammate and current New York City striker David Villa recently admitting he had spoken to him over a switch to Major League Soccer.
