Morata linked with €30m Madrid return

Alvaro Morata is being lined up for a sensational return to Real Madrid from Juventus this summer, according to AS.

The 22-year-old joined Juve for a reported €22m last July with Madrid inserting a clause in his contract that allowed them first option on the player for this year and the next.

Los Blancos would need to pay €30m to bring him back to the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of this season, although that figure would rise to €35m in 12 months’ time, and speculation is that they may be prepared to do business sooner rather than later.

Morata has impressed in Serie A this term and scored the Bianconeri’s opening goal in their 2-1 Champions League semi-final first leg defeat of Carlo Ancelotti’s men this week.

Should Madrid exercise their option to recover him, a five-year contract and a salary well in excess of the €2.2m-a-year he currently earns in Turin is already understood to have been agreed.

However, Morata is not convinced a return to the Spanish capital is necessarily good for him at this stage of his career and is enjoying life in Italy.

“I’m not thinking about Madrid. I’m happy in Turin,” he told Tuttosport only last month, although when he scored against the European champions he refused to celebrate.
