James’ battle cry for Bernabeu

James Rodriguez has issued a battle cry for Real Madrid’s Champions League return leg with Juventus next week.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men went down 2-1 to the Italians in Turin on Tuesday night but the Colombian believes, with the backing of the fans at the Santiago Bernabeu, his team are perfectly capable of turning the tie around.

“The Bernabeu has to be on fire and we must go for the kill because this wasn’t a bad result,” he told Television Espanola.

“We need to have faith because we’re playing in front of our fans in our stadium. I think the Bernabeu crowd have really got to get behind us.”

The 23-year-old felt Juve ‘rode their luck’ at certain times and highlighted his second-half header against the crossbar when the scores were level, although he feels Madrid must now move on.

“I think we have to put this behind us and think about next Wednesday. It’s going to be difficult because they’ll sit back and they are strong, but we are at home and we need to go all out for the win.

“They sat back tonight and it’s tough against an Italian team, but our hopes of reaching the final are still alive,” declared a defiant James.
