Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid having played both teams in the tournament.

Juventus were Atletico’s opponents in the group stage, while Los Blancos won out in a quarter-final derby, a repeat of last year’s Champions League final.

“We competed in the best way against Madrid, and were eliminated with a goal 178 minutes into 180,” Simeone wrote for Goal, Marca reports.

“They were two very tough games. In the first match, Madrid were better in the first half and in the second, we balanced the game well.

“The second game was a classic quarter-final in the Champions League, were any situation or detail may favour one of the two teams.

“Arda Turan’s sending off changed the remainder of the game so that it went for Madrid.

“Madrid has a lot of values – a balanced Coach with great experience and a fantastic group of players, where everyone obviously has talent.

“Beyond that is a team with leaders, history and they’re obviously prepared for what lies ahead.

“Having played Juventus we understood they were going to be a team among the best in Europe.

“They have been competing well in Italy for years and after coming up against them, it was clear they were on their way to being among the very best in Europe.

“Historically, Juventus are very dangerous at this stage of a tournament. They’re a strong team, especially in midfield. They have very good midfielders.

“Paul Pogba is a player on a different level. He has great vision, breaks through the lines well, scores. And that makes him very complete for a central midfielder for Juventus.

“Carlos Tevez plays away from the area, breaks the lines well, is a leader, and is very good in one-on-ones and creates goals for his teammates.”
