Jemez quiet on Newcastle links

Paco Jemez preferred to focus on Rayo Vallecano’s pursuit of the Europa League ahead of Sunday’s match at Espanyol, despite links with Newcastle United.

The Coach, who had been linked with the Brentford post earlier in the season following the announcement of Mark Warburton’s impending exit, has been sounded out as a potential managerial appointment for the Premier League strugglers.

“We need to be better than [Espanyol] and win,” he said at a Press conference.

“The only way we can reach seventh place is by winning our four remaining matches.

“The game will be very competitive, but we’ll only have a chance of reaching seventh or eighth with a win. My players must be aware of this.

“[Espanyol] are a team who aren’t going to give much away and will try to make life difficult for us.

“I hope we know that we need to play for the win because even a draw would mean nothing to us.

"We don’t want to leave anything inside of us. We want to give everything we’ve got.”
