Jemez ‘wants to stay at Rayo’

Paco Jemez has repeated amid rumours linking him with Newcastle United that he wants to stay at Rayo Vallecano, although he admits a renewal isn’t easy.

Jemez has been strongly linked with the Premier League club and his deal at Vallecas expires at the end of the season.

Newcastle are currently managed by John Carver, who took over after Alan Pardew left for Crystal Palace, having been Pardew’s assistant.

But it’s thought Carver will be removed from the dugout at the end of the season after a dismal end to the campaign for the Magpies, and Jemez has been touted as a successor.

“I want to stay. I’ve said that many times,” Jemez confirmed, AS reports, after Rayo drew 1-1 with Valencia.

“If I didn’t want to stay, I wouldn’t have given the club the possibility of talks to renew my contract.

“I don’t know what will happen. Every day that passes is a day that new things come out that weren’t there before, the market starts to move and those whose contracts have finished are in the fray.

“I hope when this starts I still have a team.

“Already the rumours start and I don’t want to be left stuck in a field. I don’t like some of the names mentioned [to replace him as Rayo Coach].

“I hope that whatever happens, happens soon. The possibility of continuing here isn’t easy but it is viable, but I don’t want rumours.”
