Jemez: ‘Rayo must be at their best’

Rayo Vallecano boss Paco Jemez says his players must be at their best to take anything from Thursday night’s game against Valencia.

Moreover, the 45-year-old feels that Los Che now have the potential to be title challengers in the not too distant future.

“We are going to have to play our best game because we are up against opponents who have a great squad and have received significant investment,” he told the Spanish Football League’s official website.

“They have one of the biggest budgets and are up there where they should be. We won’t beat them by playing badly and doing little.

“They are having a fantastic season and with [Coach] Nuno they have put together a very good team.

“If they continue like this then over time they have a clear chance of challenging the top two teams in Spain.”

Jemez has been in charge of Rayo for three seasons but is tipped to depart the club this summer after failing to agree a new contract.

Nonetheless, several teams are rumoured to be interested in acquiring his services, with Newcastle United the latest to be linked to a Coach who bases his team’s system on attacking football and possession.

“Our style is perhaps flashy but people seem to like it. We don’t mind going forward, especially when we can win games and create chances.

“Football is a spectacle, a sport, and people pay good money to watch it,” he maintained.
