Elche still not safe says Escriba

Elche eased their relegation fear with a thumping 4-0 victory over Deportivo la Coruna at the Martinez Valero on Wednesday night.

However, boss Fran Escriba is still refusing to get carried away and says there is still work to be done before top-flight safety is assured.

Jonathas opened the scoring for the hosts on six minutes and David Lomban doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 19th minute.

On-loan Chelsea midfielder Mario Pasalic then killed the game off eight minutes after the break before Garry Rodrigues completed the scoring late on.

“We played well and deserved our win. It gets us nearer to our objectives but we were still lacking in certain things and that’s something to think about,” Escriba told reporters post-match.

“We’ve suffered a lot this season and in December were big favourites to go down. However, we are now we are in a good position [eight points above the relegation zone], although it’s not definitive and we’re not safe just yet.

“I was expecting a closer game against Depor but I’m glad I was wrong,” he maintained.
