Weligton slams Malaga display

Malaga captain Weligton was critical of his team after the 1-0 defeat at Celta Vigo and said if youngsters need to be brought in then so be it.

A late Nolito goal condemned the Andalusians to an eighth consecutive game without a win and the Brazilian admitted there may need to be changes if things continue as they are for much longer.

“If some people are not geared up for it and focused then they should be left out. If we have to bring the youngsters in then that’s what we’ll do,” Weligton told reporters in the mixed zone at Balaidos.

“We planned this game well because we knew how powerful Celta would be, yet we failed on so many occasions and in the end we paid for it. A team that wants to be near the top cannot afford to make so many mistakes.

“The dressing room is down because a draw wouldn’t have been so bad. Now we have to get our heads up, forget all the nonsense talked, and get ready for the next game against Elche on Sunday.

“Every one of us knows we have to give a lot more and reflect on our own performances,” he maintained.
