Escriba: ‘Elche fans wanted change’

Fran Escriba says Elche fans wanted a change at the top following the resignation of club President Jose Sepulcre.

However, the 49-year-old boss says he now wants to focus solely on football ahead of Deportivo la Coruna’s visit to the Martinez Valero on Wednesday night, rather than the allegations of financial irregularity that have plagued Los Illicitanos all season.

“The change was something the supporters were demanding and all parties have reached agreement for the benefit of Elche. I hope it’s for the better,” Escriba told a Press conference.

“Sepulcre was the President when we got promoted and he has his strong points, but I acknowledge he also made mistakes.

“We must now focus on sport because that’s the basis for the club’s salvation. I don’t want to go too deep into matters because the important thing now is the match against Depor.

“I’m the Coach and I don’t want to comment on who makes up the members of the board,” he declared.
