Arsenal plan shock Casillas swoop

Arsenal are lining up a shock bid for Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas this summer, according to reports.

Onda Cero have revealed that Los Blancos are willing to buy up the remainder of the Spain international’s contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, one that expires in 2017, meaning the Gunners would not have to match his current salary.

The European champions see Manchester United’s David de Gea as the long-term successor to Casillas and would reportedly like to land him this summer.

De Gea is stalling over signing a new deal at Old Trafford, with some reports suggesting he is waiting to see if Madrid make any overtures before committing his future one way or the other.

However, one stumbling block to any transfer could be Casillas’s recently-stated desire to see out the remainder of his contract in the Spanish capital, while Liverpool could also be interested should he intimate he may leave.
