Ancelotti: Life or death for Madrid

Carlo Ancelotti describes Real Madrid’s game against Almeria as ‘life or death’ and confirmed Keylor Navas’ starting role.

Ancelotti also discussed the Champions League semi-final with Juventus, the form of James Rodriguez and Javier Hernandez and playing with a back three.

“Very few times have we played with a back three,” he said when the subject was raised at a Press conference, AS reports.

“In Vigo it was circumstantial, as Celta had four strikers. I wanted superiority. I prefer a back four.

“Keylor will play tomorrow. Why always at Santiago Bernabeu? There’s no reason. I’ve never thought about it.

“We’ll evaluate Chicharito’s future at the end of the season. I’ve liked his professionalism all year and he has taken his opportunity. It’s positive to have these players.

“Was I wrong not to use him more? How many times I’ve been wrong! When you can only pick 11, you get things wrong. I can’t think about that.

“James has surprised everyone. We knew he had great quality but he’s quickly become accustomed to the team’s play. He’s helped the team and played with great humility.

“It’s a time of the season where every game is life or death. We have to prepare for Almeria with this thought.

“A draw would make things complicated. The goal for the League is to win all five matches. Against Juventus we could use the old Italian style. Two draws will do.”
