Suarez: Barca had great desire

Luis Suarez says the memory of how Barcelona struggled at Getafe earlier in the season spurred the team on to a Camp Nou rout.

Barca drew 0-0 with El Geta in December but avenged that stalemate with a 6-0 trouncing in the return, Suarez scoring twice in a first half that saw five Blaugrana goals, Lionel Messi adding the sixth minutes into the second half.

“We played a good game in the first 45 minutes, took three points and they’re more than vital,” the Uruguayan said after the match, AS reports.

“We’re aware that every opponent is going to come and look for three points. We suffered from the pressure of Getafe as in the first round and we had great desire.

“I don’t know if anything has been key [to Barca’s 2015 form]. There’s maximum commitment of the team, the fans, everyone.

“We’re obliged to do important things and we’re facing the most important stretch of the season. I try to help the team the best I can and things are going well.

“The team had a very good first half. That’s what’s important. Getafe played a great game [in December] and we knew that if we weren’t at our best it could be complicated. We played with confidence to take the points.

“Hopefully we have some goals left for the Champions League. But what matters is the team remains in this form.”
