Gracia laments lost Malaga chance

Javi Gracia lamented the missed opportunity for Malaga to take a step towards European qualification following the 1-1 draw with Deportivo la Coruna.

The Costa del Sol outfit failed to take all three points at La Rosaleda after Oriol Riera equalised Nordin Amrabat’s opener just after the break, and Gracia felt his team had taken a backward step in their quest for a Europa League place.

“This was a game in which, to be fair, anything could have happened and we could have lost or won it,” he told a Press conference.

“We’ve missed a chance to close in on sixth place and it’s a big step backwards for us as we look to compete in Europe next season.

“Playing like we did today it will be virtually impossible to finish seventh but in the end I thought a draw was a fair result.

“We are not at the same level as in the first half of the season in many aspects and we again conceded a goal from a set-piece.

“In the run-in to the end of the campaign a lot of teams are equal and you need to do a lot to win,” he asserted.
