Villarreal turning point for Cordoba?

Cordoba boss Jose Luis Romero believes Sunday’s 0-0 draw at Villarreal could be a turning point for his players as they look to avoid relegation.

La Liga’s bottom club take on Athletic Bilbao at the Nuevo Arcangel on Friday night, having won just three games all season and sitting eight points adrift of safety.

Nonetheless, Romero feels there is still hope while it is mathematically possible to stay up and cited goalkeeper Juan Carlos, who has been criticised by fans in recent matches, as the example to follow.

“The point at El Madrigal has provided us with sufficient energy to achieve the balance that we need,” he told reporters.

“Juan Carlos is a great example. How did you see him [against Villarreal]? He was mentally strong, emotionally and physically stable. He was like a feather and that’s how we want the whole team to be.

“For the Bilbao game Borja [Garcia] is suspended and [Iago] Bouzon out injured, whilst Inigo Lopez and Fede are pushing for a place, although we’ll need to evaluate things.

“Athletic are a team on the up, well balanced with dynamism and determination in attack, where they have a reference point in Aduriz,” explained Romero.
