Villas-Boas angry at Sevilla penalty

Zenit St. Petersburg boss Andre Villas-Boas was annoyed at the award of a penalty to Sevilla in their Europa League clash on Thursday.

Luis Neto was adjudged to have brought down Vitolo after just six minutes, with Carlos Bacca converting from the penalty spot before Jose Rondon’s equaliser and a Hulk goal gave the Russian side the advantage in their quarter-final second leg tie.

However, Kevin Gameiro’s late strike ensured Unai Emery’s men a place in the final four with a 4-3 aggregate success, yet the way in which the Andalusians took the lead upset Villas-Boas.

“We didn’t have any luck and it was hard to get back into the game after conceding in the first few minutes,” the Portuguese told reporters post-match.

“For me, the penalty was questionable because I don’t think there was any contact. My players reacted as best they could after the break and showed some real spirit.

“We did everything we could but without Garay at the back due to suspension it harmed our defensive performance.

“Although we are disappointed we must now move on,” he added.
