Villa backing Barca for treble

Former Barcelona striker David Villa says the Blaugrana have a great chance of landing all three trophies they are competing in this season.

The New York City star was part of Barca’s 2011 Champions League-winning team and believes the present side can emulate them as well as putting two other trophies in the club cabinet.

“Real Madrid seem to have got their act together but Barca look good to me and are very strong, particularly over the past few months,” Villa told Marca.

“Barca are capable of winning the treble. They are top of La Liga, through to the Champions League semi-finals and in the final of the Copa del Rey.

“They have a great chance of doing it but there is still a long way to go yet. I hope they enjoy great success because it would make me really happy.”

Villa does not understand the way in which Luis Enrique’s men have come in for criticism at times this term.

“The only way to do things is to keep on winning. Barca are doing that and achieving things even if they have ‘changed their style’, although that’s something I don’t believe they have done.

“They play well, score goals, and concede few…I’m sure that the fans are more than happy with them.”
