Iniesta unconcerned over CL draw

Andres Iniesta says he is not bothered who Barcelona get when the draw for the Champions League semi-finals is made on Friday.

The 30-year-old midfielder, speaking in an exclusive interview with Marca, also dismissed claims participation in the competition could affect Barca’s La Liga form in the run-in to the season.

“There’s no reason for us wanting to avoid anyone in the semi-finals because we’ll have to perform our best no matter who it is,” he maintained.

“If we do that then the chances of reaching the final will be in our own hands, so it depends on what we do, but I don’t think the excitement of being so close to achieving our goals can keep tiredness at bay.

“It’s true these games can cause physical fatigue but we mustn’t let that have an influence. We’re ready for it.”

Iniesta was reminded he has always said he prefers teams that come to defend, particularly when they visit the Camp Nou.

“It’s not about whether I like teams that shut up shop or not. In theory a team that wants to keep it tight has less chance of causing you problems, although it’s not a guarantee that you’ll beat them. A semi-final is exciting no matter who you play.”

Finally, the 30-year-old was asked if he felt the Barca midfield was being bypassed these days with the team having such a prolific forward line.

“We are trying to ensure that isn’t the case as all areas of the pitch are important, but it’s true that having three players of such quality up front is a guarantee for any team.

“Anything that involves us taking advantage of their maximum potential will bring us closer to victory.

“It’s about finding a balance in everything we do,” he added.
