Eibar win vital insists Vila

Eibar left-back Didac Vila believes a win at Almeria on Sunday is going to be crucial to the club’s chances of top-flight safety this season.

The Basques are just three points clear of the relegation zone, three in front of Almeria, and former Espanyol defender Vila, on loan from Milan until the end of the season, feels if Eibar fail to take anything from the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterraneos they will be sucked into the fight for survival.

“If we win we are three more points towards safety but if not we are well and truly into the fight for it,” the 25-year-old told reporters.

“We’ll be giving our all as I think this is the most important game of our season. If we win it will sink them further and if we lose it gives them life. The sooner we achieve safety the better.”

Vila is aware that Eibar face a difficult run-in with the next two games against Sevilla at Ipurua followed by a visit to Valencia.

“We know they are going to be tough games but Sevilla have to come to our ground and we are hoping to make it a fortress from now until the end of the season.

“The game at Almeria is going to be decided by small details and we are going to have to retain possession better than we have been doing.

“If we have to do a lot of running it will cause tiredness and reduce our capacity to create chances at the other end,” he explained.
