Isco ‘surprised’ by Ramos role

Isco has admitted he was surprised to see Sergio Ramos start in midfield for Real Madrid’s win over Atletico Madrid and discussed his situation.

The defender was deployed in the absence of Luka Modric and Carlo Ancelotti explained why in the aftermath of Los Blancos’ 1-0 success, secured by a late Javier Hernandez goal.

“[Ramos in midfield] was a surprise to me, but the great players adapt to all positions. He had a good game,” Isco said, AS reports.

“We didn’t train with that, no. Maybe I wasn’t involved…

“It’s true I struggled [with being dropped] at first. That’s normal after so many months playing, and all of a sudden, not.

“Hurt? No, but I wasn’t very happy. I thought I was doing a great job, but there is a lot of competition. That makes us all better.”

Isco was asked by reporters if the Madrid dressing room was rocking following their dramatic win, and had to admit he had no idea.

“To tell you the truth, I haven’t seen it. I had to do a dope test,” he revealed.

“I imagine the atmosphere is incredible. The fans were pushing us from the beginning. We wanted to make them happy.

“This was the quarter-final of the Champions League and part of the season depended on this. We’re very satisfied.

“In both legs we were the better team. We could have scored more goals but we didn’t give up. We were insistent and got our reward.”
