Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso says he hopes Real Madrid prevail against Atletico Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.
Former Madrid playmaker Alonso is hoping Los Blancos follow his team into the Champions League semi-finals with victory over Atleti and admits he will be cheering them on.
“I’ll be rooting for Real Madrid in the derby and here’s hoping they go through,” the 33-year-old told Canal Plus.
“I want to wish them the best of luck for the game. I’ve got a lot of friends there. They are a club I have a great deal of affection for and everything I experienced with them is still very fresh [in the memory].
Alonso sealed the 6-1 thrashing of Porto on Tuesday night at the Allianz Arena with a superb free-kick, his fourth goal for Pep Guardiola’s side, as the Germans qualified for the last four.
