Castillejo: ‘Malaga morale restored’

Midfielder Samu Castillejo is convinced morale at Malaga has been restored despite the 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid last weekend.

Los Blanquiazules will be looking to consolidate seventh place against Deportivo la Coruna at La Rosaleda this Sunday and the 20-year-old feels they can take heart from their performance at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“We’ll be going out with our morale strengthened because we held our own for 90 minutes in Madrid and had the chances to have drawn the game,” he told a Press conference.

“We are now looking forward to the Depor match, which is very important to us, and we are incredibly motivated for it. I hope the Malaguistas fill the stadium to capacity on Sunday.

“Depor tend to rely on second balls and they are very strong at the back, which will make it tough, but we’ve been performing well against the big sides lately and we are also capable of making it difficult for our opponents.

“During the last stage of the League competition teams fighting relegation can often make it a hard-fought match, but in front of our fans and a full stadium it will be another thing altogether.”

Castillejo insists he does not want to focus on seventh place and a European spot.

“We just need to concentrate on our own game. There is a difference of three points between us and Athletic Bilbao, who are doing well and have had a good run recently, but we are prepared to fight until the end,” he declared.
