Pastore: ‘PSG can mount comeback’

Javier Pastore insists Paris Saint-Germain can come back from a 3-1 deficit in Tuesday’s Champions League game with Barcelona at the Camp Nou.

The Ligue 1 giants appear to have a mountain to climb against Luis Enrique’s men after the quarter-final first-leg defeat in Paris last week, although it is not a view shared by the 25-year-old Argentina international.

“We believe we can mount a comeback and that’s what we’ve been working on,” Pastore told a Press conference.

“This is a game that can be won or lost and unfortunately the only possibility for us is to win and play a good game, both for ourselves and our fans, in order to qualify for the semi-finals.

“The good thing is that we have nothing to lose because we are coming off the back of a fairly negative result. We are also going there with two key players returning. [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic is very important and so too is [Marca] Verratti.

“They are fundamental to us and we’ll try to play a good game. We’ll do everything possible to get through.

“When we get near their goal we must take our chances to gain confidence. It will be very difficult and we have to score three, but it’s been shown in many matches that this can happen,” he argued, whilst accepting that PSG will need to stop Lionel Messi.

“It’s hard to say that Messi is in the best form of his career because he was playing like this six years ago. His statistics as a footballer are incredible and it makes me very happy as he is Argentine and you like to see your countrymen play the best football.

“Every year he continues to score more goals and gets better. I hope he continues like that but on Tuesday I don’t want him to score and hope he rests a little,” admitted Pastore.
