Torres: ‘Bernabeu will be different’

Fernando Torres feels Atletico Madrid’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid on Wednesday will be ‘different’ to last week’s game.

Speaking at a promotional event in the Spanish capital for the latest Ultra Boost trainers, Torres insisted the second leg quarter-final encounter at the Santiago Bernabeu will bear little resemblance to the 0-0 draw at the Vicente Calderon.

“Every game we play against them is a different story and I think this one will be because of the first leg result,” maintained Torres.

“It was strange as it was neither good nor bad for both sides. I hope this match goes the way we want it to and I’m expecting an offensive Real Madrid, yet they can’t go mad because 0-0 means they mustn’t concede.

“However, I think they will attack so we need to be ready to attack and defend. I feel more comfortable when we have a good defensive block and there is space I can run in to.”

The former Liverpool, Chelsea and Milan player says he is looking forward to the occasion, although he admits it is always special to pull on the red and white shirt of his boyhood club.

“Each match is important. I have been fortunate enough to play in the finals of the Champions League and Europa League, but with Atleti it’s different in another way.

“I hope there will be matches more important than this one this year, as I’ve always said it’s my dream to win titles with Atleti, so I’ll continue to work and fight for that. I’ve played matches that are more important, but not so special like this.

“I’m enjoying every moment of my return to the club. My presentation day alone was spectacular. Those who understand the Atletico ‘feeling’ will know what I’m talking about.

“I’m happy with the way things are going and how I’ve played in the big games, so I want to play in this one,” he conceded.
