Raul Garcia has highlighted the importance of Antoine Griezmann to Atletico Madrid after his brace against Deportivo La Coruna.
Garcia made his first start since injury in the 2-1 win over Depor, Griezmann scoring both goals for the champions and, in an interview with AS, Garcia spoke of what the France international has contributed since joining from Real Sociedad.
“With the stumble of Valencia [beaten 2-0 by Barcelona] we knew the importance of the match at Riazor,” he said of Atletico’s fight for third place.
“We went out strong and approached the game on the necessary track but we couldn’t kill them off, through circumstances of bad decisions, and they got on the scoreboard.
“After the Champions League the next game has always been difficult, but the team reacted well.
“I tried to help the team. I really wanted to play, as usual after an injury, but I felt good and the best team won.
“[Antoine] Griezmann’s goals are very important, as they have been through the whole season. All players, when they play, give their all, and he is adding a lot and doing what is needed.”
