Sergio ‘not thinking of Barca’

Sergio Gonzalez insists his focus in entirely on Espanyol’s next match, against Levante, and not the derby with Barcelona next week.

Espanyol travel to Levante in the Friday night game and the Coach warned of what to expect from Les Granotes.

“Levante are an aggressive and intense team at home because their safety depends on what they do there,” Sergio said, AS reports.

“It will be a very physical game and we will have to stay focused. They are strong at home and have achieved great things.

“I won’t pick a team with the derby in mind. The most important game is Levante and we’ll play with our best. No exceptions, and we act the same throughout the season. I’ve got no hesitation.

“I only have words of thanks to Levante. There’s not a link on an emotional level because my clubs are Espanyol first and Deportivo La Coruna second, but I spent a year there before I retired.

“I played well until I was injured in the February. It was my last year as a player and I have good memories.”
