Emery: Not the best result or the worst

Unai Emery was indifferent about Sevilla’s 2-1 Europa League win over Zenit St Petersburg, although he was pleased his side came from a goal down.

Aleksandr Ryazantsev put the Russians in front inside half-an-hour at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, Carlos Bacca levelling late in the second half and Denis Suarez putting Sevilla in front later still.

“I think the result reflects the tie, with two teams competing,” Emery said, AS reports.

“It’s not the best result and not the worst. They’re a successful team, accustomed to knockout games.

“Being 0-1 made us rethink the situation and we found a way in the second half.

“The idea behind the substitutions was to find a new way. With Denis we looked for more support and with [Jose Reyes and Ever Banega] we could generate superiority.

“The idea was to change the score and the changes were aimed at that. It’s not that Vicente Iborra and Coke weren’t good, but we had to change the game.

“Denis broke the lines and got the reward of a goal.

“Banega has been given qualities from God. He is happy with Sevilla and in Seville, feels protected and supported and that’s why we insist he should always show his quality.”
