Eric Cantona in La Roja broadside

Former Manchester United player Eric Cantona has aimed an amazing broadside at Spanish football.

The Frenchman, speaking at a Press conference ahead of the Laureus Awards in Shanghai, believes it was not Spain that won the World Cup in 2010 but Catalonia.

“Catalonia won the World Cup. Spain won it with 10 Barcelona players in the team. Spain did not win the World Cup, Catalonia did. Barcelona won it.”

“I’m sure that as soon as the youth set-up from Barcelona and other Spanish teams draw new, good players, Spain will emerge again.”

Cantona also commented on who he feels is the best footballer in the world, and surprisingly it was neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo.

“For me Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Javier Pastore is the most creative player right now. I’ve seen him playtwice and he is a special player, not only in scoring goals.

“Pastore surprises you with his passing and movement.” he claimed.
