Marcelino expecting scrappy encounter

Marcelino has conceded that he expects Getafe-Villarreal in La Liga’s early kick-off on Sunday to be a scrappy encounter.

The Yellow Submarine have won just one of their last 10 matches, and the Coach admits his side will have to win ugly against Los Azulones if they are to arrest their slump.

“I don’t think it’s going to be a spectacle for purists, so we must be very competitive,” he said at a Press conference.

“The team who defend the best on the day will win the game.

“At this stage of the season, we need results. The team have always competed and shown great conviction to win.

“We’ve had chances in every game and dominated opponents on a higher level.

“We’ve gone six games without a win, but I think the only one we failed to keep up our pace in was against Espanyol.

“We’re going through a period in which we’re not at a suitable level in front of goal.

“Although I’m concerned that we haven’t created many chances of late, the goals will come sooner or later if we start creating chances again.

“[Getafe] will be our third game of the week. Our second [performance] was pretty weak, so I’ll be giving an opportunity to other players, who have been waiting for one.

“It’s our duty as Coaches to give them. [Denis Cheryshev] comes from a complicated injury, but it’s possible that he’ll get minutes [against Getafe].”
