Busquets refuses to blame Pique

Sergio Busquets has refused to point the finger at Gerard Pique following Barcelona’s 2-2 draw with Sevilla in La Liga on Saturday.

The defender was found wanting in the build-up to Kevin Gameiro’s late equaliser as he failed to track the substitute’s run in the box, but the 26-year-old insists the whole team must take responsibility for their inability to kill the game off.

“On the plus side, there’s one less game left [before the end of the season], but we still have some difficult venues to play at,” he said after the game.

“[Barca] were better [on the whole], but in the second half, Sevilla pressed more and the game became more even. Whether it’s fair or not, it is what it is. We must press on.

“It hurts because we’re the League leaders and we wanted the three points to maintain our dynamic.

“However, we played against a Sevilla team who haven’t lost at home in a year and have also won trophies.

“It would be a mistake to blame [Pique], it’s the team’ss fault. We won’t start pointing fingers, but there’s no getting around [the result].

“We wanted control of the game when we went ahead, but our opponents played well, became more intense and countered us.”
